Officials in Afghanistan are resisting US pressure for a wide-ranging clean-up of Kabul Bank, which is mired in allegations of corruption that have engulfed some of the wealthiest and most powerful people in the country.

When asked whether he (Mahmoud Karzai) thought anyone should go to jail if fraud is uncovered he said, "I don't think so because that would create chaos. Maybe there should be fines or something like that."

Customers wait to take money from Kabul Bank, which has seen $160m withdrawn in two days.

In the words of one foreign official, the US treasury is anxious to "rip the lid" off the cowboy capitalism that has been allowed to flourish at Kabul Bank.
This type of scenario exists in Capitalist nations but is undercover so the masses do not see the true ugly face of Capitalism.
Whoever plays with Capitalism, will get burnt!

A Rwandan rebel group, the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), occupied the town of Luvungi July 30 and embarked on a four-day raping spree in the town and the surrounding area, the International Medical Corps said.

"Nearly all reported rapes were described as having been perpetrated by two to six armed men, often taking place in front of the women's children and husbands," the IMC said in a statement.
The mass rape took place around 20 miles from a UN peacekeeping mission base. MONUSCO, as the mission is now known, refused to comment on the attack when contacted on Tuesday.

It seems the UN is always close to the 'action' and allows such horrific and barbaric acts to take place again and again.
"Which ideology and way of life was really spread by the sword?"
George W. Bush, War President

source: http://www.harpers.org/subjects/NoComment#hbc-90007133

In a February 7, 2004 interview with NBC’s Tim Russert, George W. Bush said:
I’m a war president. I make decisions here in the Oval Office in foreign-policy matters with war on my mind. Again, I wish it wasn’t true, but it is true. And the American people need to know they got a president who sees the world the way it is. And I see dangers that exist, and it’s important for us to deal with them.

Now it turns out that Bush may have had a very different understanding of his role as a “war president.” In an interview with former Argentine president Néstor Kirchner, Oliver Stone learned that Bush claimed that waging war was a formula for economic growth. Here’s the key exchange:
kirchner: I said that a solution for the problems right now, I told Bush, is a Marshall Plan. And he got angry. He said the Marshall Plan is a crazy idea of the Democrats. He said the best way to revitalize the economy is war. And that the United States has grown stronger with war.
stone: War, he said that?
kirchner: He said that. Those were his exact words.
stone: Is he suggesting that South America go to war?
kirchner: Well, he was talking about the United States: “The Democrats had been wrong. All of the economic growth of the United States has been encouraged by wars.” He said it very clearly.

Here’s the video.

The interview was done for Stone’s new documentary, South of the Border, which is set for its theatrical release in June. The interview provides evidence that all those 'crazed' individuals who claimed that Bush was pursuing war with Iraq for economic reasons perhaps weren’t so crazy after all.

Germany has been plunged into a political crisis by the surprise resignation of President Köhler.

On a trip last week to meet German troops in Afghanistan he had declared that a country such as Germany, dependent on exports and free trade, must be prepared to use military force.

The country, he said, had to act “to protect our interests, for example, free-trade routes, or to prevent regional instability which might certainly have a negative effect on our trade, jobs and earnings”.

The intention of the interview was to convince Germans that the Bundeswehr was in Afghanistan not because it was blindly obeying orders from the US or Nato but because of basic national interest.

“Köhler has said something openly that has been obvious from the beginning,” said Klaus Ernst, head of the Left party. “German soldiers are risking life and limb in Afghanistan to defend the [exports] of big economic interests.”

Hadith

“There will come a time in which the nations of the world will invite one another to invade you in the same manner in which a person who arranges a feast calls upon his guests to partake of the victuals”.

Self "interest" is the essence of Capitalism....

A horrified mum told yesterday how her six-year-old daughter was repeatedly stripped and sexually abused at school - by 23 of her classmates.

The terrified girl was attacked every day in the school grounds by a mob of pupils her own age - under the noses of unsuspecting teachers.

However shocked we feel, we must remember a six-year-old only has a vague sense of right and wrong, and this largely depends on home upbringing.

Above all, we must not see this awful event as a sign of the dreadful state of the UK. Because if our kids are going to the dogs, it's not society at large that's to blame, but what happens at home.
